The Idiot

★★★★☆  book

The Idiot

A Harvard freshman in the 1990s stumbles into an oblique, epistolary exchange conducted via email. The narrator overthinks language itself, extracting significance from punctuation, until love becomes a problem to be solved by someone too clever to understand that thought and feeling are not the same thing. Very funny, very smart, very much about being young and brilliant and still not knowing how to simply want someone.

what it left me with

You can be the smartest person in the room and still be rendered helpless before desire. Intellectual brilliance does not translate to fluency of the heart.

this is one entry from a wandering list of films, books, shows and albums, kept by someone trying to live a slightly more deliberate life.
