book review

Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe, radiant in their shared penury in New York, resolving to be artists long before anyone had granted them permission. It is a love story, an elegy, and the finest argument I know for choosing the life well before you can afford it.
You do not wait until you are qualified to become the person. You comport yourself as her while still penniless, and the qualifying takes care of itself somewhere along the way.
this is one entry from a wandering list of films, books, shows and albums, kept by someone trying to live a slightly more deliberate life.
