Ostensibly a series about the polished legerdemain of advertising; in practice, a study of the performance of selfhood, and of the women, Peggy and Joan, prising power from a world engineered to keep them ornamental. Don Draper is a cautionary figure, not a hero.
what it left me with
The self you perform at the office can, given sufficient time, devour the self you actually are; and the women underestimated in the typing pool are frequently the ones who win the long game.
