book review

Nora Ephron converts her husband’s betrayal, enacted during the vulnerability of her own pregnancy, into a novel of exquisite comic precision, studded throughout with recipes as both archive and reckoning. Revenge becomes wit and vinaigrette in perfect measure. The work testifies to a particular genius: the capacity to be simultaneously gutted and devastatingly, meticulously funny.
When the heart has been broken, the most elegant revenge comprises a life well lived and the narrative that proves it was worth the cost. A key lime pie, of perfect tartness, may reasonably be served alongside.
this is one entry from a wandering list of films, books, shows and albums, kept by someone trying to live a slightly more deliberate life.
