Picnic at Hanging Rock

Picnic at Hanging Rock

On Valentine’s Day, a party of Victorian schoolgirls ascends a monolith in the shimmering Australian heat and is quietly subtracted from the world. You are never told what became of them. A lesser film would have manufactured an answer; this one permits the mystery to keep its silence, and the silence acquires something almost numinous. It haunts for years.

what it left me with

Not everything consents to resolution. Certain things merely open a door in you and decline to close it. Learn to live inside a story that was never granted an ending; the tenancy runs longer than you expect.

this is one entry from a wandering list of films, books, shows and albums, kept by someone trying to live a slightly more deliberate life.
